How fossil fuels are formed !
We have been enjoying the coal reserves for last few centuries. These days the usage has increased exponentially despite the dis-appearence of the reserves.
Lets understand how the coal is formed.
All living things use and store carbon. Millions of years ago, when plants and animals died, they were buried, crushed, and fossiled remains - hence these are called fossil fuels.
Coal formation:
The dead plants and animals remains were buried in by sand, mud and other plants. This forms a water fuel called Peat.
The peat was buried in sediments and weight of the rocks pressing down on the peat squeezed out the water and slowly compressed and fossiled into coal.
With more pressure and heat, the carbon in the coal was concentrated and coal rurned black.
When we burn fossil fuels we release large amounts of carbon into the atmosphere as part of the gas carbon dioxide.
Oil and Gas are formation
This is the result of ocean life. When ancient sea creatures died and fell to the ocean floor. Over millions of years their remains covered by the sand and mud thta pressed togetehr and eventually formed rock.
As this rocks continued to pile up on the top of dead creatures , the crushing pressure fossiled their remains and turned them into Oil and gas.
