Micro Wind Turbines!
Till now Wind turbines were assumed to be out of reach to common people but the concept of Micro Wind Turbines has proved it wrong.
Researchers of HongKong university and Lucian Gambarota of Motorwave Ltd have developed a wind turbine with micro-wind turbine technology , small enough for private use in rural and urban environment. Unlike large scale wind turbines ( 50m diameter ) , micro-wind turbines has 25cm diameter and can generate electricity with mere 2 km/hr wind speed.
Approximate cost of this product is 150 USD and can be reduced if mass production starts. The gear like turbine can be linked to fit anywhere. According to tests, the turbines arranged within 1 sq.m and wind speed of 5 m/s generate 131KWH / year.
This is a simple but intresting idea for extracting natural energy from the wind. Isn't it ?
