Electrical Vehicles - State of Art technology

Undoubtedly the impact of global warming is forcing us towards research and development of electrical vehicles. During the begining of 20th century , EVs dominated ICE/Gasoline engines due to their easy starting and better acceleration. But invention of STARTER and longer range capability of ICE/Gasoline vehicles dominated during the next part of the century. This domination continued till our enviromentalists warned about the Ozone depletion and Global warming phenomena. This threat is motivating people to research in this field to save our mother Earth.

A glance of recent developments of EVs by various Auto Gaints in the world

  • EV1 developed by General Motors
  • THINK CITY by Ford
  • RAV4 by Toyota
  • HYPERMINI by Nissan

The above are pure EVs which run only by Battery. But recent times the " Hybrid vehicles " came in to existance to increase the range of travel per charge. The examples are

  • PRIUS by Toyota
  • INSIGHT by Honda
  • TINO MODEL by Nissan

These hybrid vehicles use electrical motor and an Internal Combustion engine and thus do not solve the pollution problem but reduces it. Due to the multiple propulsions and complex control aspects adding to the cost and are not economically viable in the long run , although currently a number of commercial , prototype and experimental hybrid models are available. The cost of HEVs and EVs are expected to be high untill production volume increases significantly.
